BNPs fresh oust-govt programmes after Eid

Main opposition BNP will go for fresh agitation programmes shortly after the holy Eid-ul-Azha to compel the Awami League-led government to step down and hold the next general election under a non-party caretaker government.

?BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia would declare the programmes, including hartal, blockade and demonstration, from a public meeting in the capital next month,? Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman, member of the party?s policymaking standing committee, told daily sun on Friday.

In the first phase, Khaleda Zia concluded her anti-government campaign by launching road marches to Sylhet, Bogra and Mymensingh from the capital to mobilise peoples? support for the political issues.

?Khaleda Zia?s road march encouraged her party?s grassroots leaders and workers to take to the street against this fascist government,? Mahbubur added.

Brig Gen (retd) ASM Hannan Shah, another member of the standing committee, said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party is going ahead with a one-point demand to unseat the government.

?The opposition party is gradually intensifying the anti-government movement. Opposition leader Khaleda Zia will announce the programmes after the Eid,? he added.

Quoting Khaleda?s statement, Hannan Shah says that it is very clear BNP now wants to give an exact reply to the government if it hatches any conspiracy to hold the election under a political government.

?Our chairperson has already hinted that a new tougher agitation movement will be waged soon from the capital to topple the government. And she urged the people to come to Dhaka and join the oust-government programme. So, we as well as the common people are eagerly waiting for her announcement,? he mentioned.

As the people were worried about the activities of the ruling AL, the government had left no option for the BNP but to forge a movement to protect national interests and the country?s independence and sovereignty, they said.

The BNP will also hold a grand rally in the capital in order to show its popularity to the grand alliance government.
